A survey published in the November issue of ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal shows that Fitness trackers, smart watches, and other wearable technology are the number one fitness trend for 2019. Other notable trends in the survey include the sustained rise of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), improved interest in employing certified fitness professionals, and rising interest in workplace health and wellness programs.
Here are the highlights of the survey:
Wearable technology returned to the top-ranked position
Group training, defined as classes of more than five participants, was rated number two
High-intensity interval training (HIIT) came in third
Fitness programs for older adults and body weight training came in 4th and 5th places, respectively
Some trends that dropped out were circuit weight training, sport-specific training, and core training
